A Paradise Named Portugal

A mile from the village of Pademe sits a castle last inhabited in the thirteen hundreds.

Tucked into Lagos Bay, the village of Alvor dates back to the Carthaginians. Its church was the only building left standing after a devastating seventeenth century earthquake. Old fashioned cobbled streets glide past modern day bars and unbelievably well priced restaurants down to a beach overhung with cliffs. Not far away an avid golfer can sneak away for a day on the greens of Alto Golf Club. Designed by Sir Henry Cotton, this course contains the longest par 5 in Europe, as well as extraordinary views of the Monchique Mountains.

Portuguese is the native language of Portugal. English speakers are easily found in the major cities, and international schools accommodate foreign, English-speaking children. Weather is temperate, although the summer can bring drought and extreme heat. Many properties in Portugal, however, are near the ocean, which helps offset the heat.
